On Saturday 28th of November I painted a mural as a tribute to the people of Tibet who made the ultimate sacrifice through self-immolation in their fight against injustices put on by the Chinese Government. This mural is in Union lane, Melbourne CBD, a high foot traffic area, and is to raise awareness of the situation in Tibet. Since last year 17 people have set themselves on fire, almost all of which went unreported by the western media, and each instance caused mass protests which result in police brutality and mass arrest of native Tibetans. There are cases where the police fired at protesters, killing unarmed Tibetans. (Read more here)
To quote from Australia Tibet Council website: "The Tibetans are protesting for three reasons: to demand freedom and basic human rights, to call for the return of the Dalai Lama and to call for the end of Chinese rule in Tibet. This message is made loud and clear in every Tibetan protest.”
